El bailarin'
Who is ‘El bailarín’? ‘El bailarín’ came from Cuba to enrich Canadians with his Cuban culture. He graduated from the National School of Art in Habana. He spent nine years dancing with the Conjunto Folkclorico Nacional de Cuba, where there he started to learn several styles of AfroCuban rhythms; such as, rumba, santería, mambo, Cha cha cha, son, Mozambique, pilón, and others. Besides dancing, he studied at the conservatory of music ‘Felix Varela’ he started to learn percussion, and now he is running his own Cuban dance and music studio, developing a fusion of music between Afro-Cuban , Jazz, Hip Hop, and various Latin rhythms. He has performed and shared the stage with local musicians in Calgary and Edmonton, with great artists such as ‘Oscar de Leon’ from Venezuela, ‘Fulanito’ from N.Y., and ‘Grupo Niche’ from Colombia. His band members are a mix of Cuban, Latin American, and North American. ‘El bailarín’ is currently working on making his own original music and arrangements to produce two CD’s that will be released in the fall of 2008. This has all been inspired by his experience as a dancer. ‘El bailarín’ is the only performer in Canada that can mix dance and music together on stage, creating a different atmosphere.
